MHS Class of 2023 Seniors are enjoyed a Senior Sunrise event at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium Sunday morning, They will start the first day of their senior year on Monday.
It was a very good day for the Mena Bearcats at the Degray State Park Golf Course... Rhett Brotherton led the way and the team finished in 2nd Place... Mena golf returns to action on Monday at the Magellan Golf Club in Hot Springs Village.. GO BEARCATS!
The Mena Ladycats played Van Buren in a benefit game on Thursday at the Union Bank Center. The regular season begins on Monday when the 7th, Jr. High and Sr. High Ladycats host Booneville. Games begin at 4:30pm.

Community leaders, including Polk Co. Sheriff Scoot Sawyer, Polk County Judge Brandon Ellison and Mena Mayor Seth Smith, spoke to employees of the Mena Public Schools on Thursday. The visit was well timed with our renewed emphasis on community as well as safety and security.

Mr. Steve Roberts with the Arkansas Activities Association spoke to all employees on Thursday about "Making Expectations a Reality." Roberts kept the audience engaged with lessons on perseverance, attitude and motivation.
Steve Roberts served as the head football coach at Southern Arkansas University, at Northwestern State University and at Arkansas State University.. After leaving Arkansas State, he became the athletic director for the Cabot, Arkansas School District and then became Associate Executive Director for Football at the Arkansas Activities Association.

Both the Ladycats & Bearcats finished 3rd at the Waldron Country Club on Tuesday. Emmi Hines led the Ladycats. Evan Leonard & Rhett Brotherton Tied for low medalist for the Bearcats. Mena will be back in action Friday at Degray Golf Club near Arkadelphia.
Mena staff participated in a Poverty Simulation presented by the DeQueen Mena Education Service Cooperative on Tuesday in the MHS cafeteria. During the simulation participants role-play a month in poverty and experience low income families’ lives. Just like real life, they need transportation to work or school and food on the table. They might struggle with a chronic illness and face daily stresses and challenges a person in poverty faces.

Mena Middle School teachers, Sheli Chaney, Amy Martin, Alicia Farringer & Lynn Ashley spoke to the Mena School Board on Monday about their trip to the New Hampshire Literacy Institute this summer. Mrs. Chaney spoke in detail about how they learned to engage students and have already begun sharing what they learned with their coworkers. Martin concluded by thanking the board for the opportunity to attend.

The training is directly related to our district focus areas of trauma-informed education and the impact poverty has on learning; professional ethics and responsibilities; school safety and security; and our new Mission and Vision.

The Mena High School cheer team took part in the grand opening celebration at Shoe Sensation in Mena this morning. In addition to welcoming in customers with a run-through tunnel, they performed cheers and were part of the ribbon cutting ceremony.
This morning Mena FFA members were at the fairgrounds helping with the 21st Annual Polk County Handicapable Rodeo! This is an amazing event held every year at the Polk County Fairgrounds.
