We are starting a new tradition here at Mena High School this year called "King of Hearts" sponsored by the student council. The senior class voted in 10 senior boys to represent them on the court and the the whole student body will vote to select the king. A Pep Rally is planned on Tuesday, February 1st where the king will be announced. The guys will be dressed in business casual for the pep rally and will be escorted by the Ladycats basketball team. Congratulations to Mena High School senior LEXI WILLIAMS ! Lexi is the newest member of the Ouachita Baptist University Band!! She received a scholarship in the amount of $3000 a year to play at OBU. GO TIGERS! GO BEARCATS !

Congratulations to FFA Member Lacy Floyd for being selected as FFA Member of the Month for January! Lacy was selected for being our high seller for our 1st ever Blue and Gold Meat Sale! She raised an astonishing amount of over $2,500. Lacy is an active member in the Mena FFA chapter where she is the Secretary, a member of the Livestock Judging Team, and on the Trap Shooting Team. She also is on the Mena FFA Show Team where she exhibits market goats and lambs.

Welcome back. Here are a few reminders about our current situation:
> Make sure and get all of your AMI work completed asap. We must report our completion rate to the Arkansas Department of Education and if the assignments were not completed, we will have to add our two AMI days to the end of the year.
> Please stay home if you are not feeling well.
> Use common sense - keep your hands washed or sanitized, do not share food, drinks, or other items, be conscious of how close you choose to get near others. You are encouraged to wear a mask. If you need a mask, come to the front office.
> Bring your water bottle or a container with a lid so that you can use the bottle-filling stations.
The cold weather has returned. Dress appropriately. Check the Lost-&-Found for coats and jackets.
The Library is closed until further notice.
If you are a FFA member that wants to join the FFA Trap Shooting Team please return your forms to Mr. McCormick before January 31st.
There is a sign-up sheet in the office for any current 7th or 8th grader that is interested in trying out for next year’s Jr. High cheer squad. You will need to put your name, what grade you will be in next year, and your current Achieve teacher. Do not come during class - do this in between classes or at lunch.
The 5th & 6th grade Quiz Bowl tournament scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed until the end of March.

JAG meeting for current 10th graders interested in participating in JAG in your junior year on Wednesday, January 26 in Library during Enrichment.
Seniors, please check Google Classroom for information on Winter Formal. The scheduled date for Winter Formal is Saturday, February 12.
If you are interested in being considered for the yearbook staff for the 2022-2023 school year, please pick up an application in Mr. Philpot’s room 205. Completed applications must be turned back in by next Wednesday, January 26, to be considered.
All students who arrive at school after the first bell will need to enter through the front doors of the school. We will no longer be admitting anyone into the building through the patio doors throughout the school day.
We have returned to our pre-Covid check-out policy, as stated in the student handbook: A student may only check out if the parent or guardian comes to the office to sign the student out; the only exception is if there is a doctor or dentist appointment, the parent may call but a written verification form must be provided upon reentry.
Be sure to order your 2022 Mena High School Yearbook for its current price of $60 while you can! The final deadline to order a yearbook is January 28. See Mr. Philpot for more information on yearbook orders.
Seniors, If you are going to UARM for college, please check your class of 2022 Google classroom for a scholarship from Remax Mena Real Estate. Deadline is May 1, 2022 and the amount is $500.
Seniors, The Alpha Kappa scholarship worth $500 has been emailed to you as well as posted in th 2022 Google Classroom. Deadline for this local scholarship is March 1, 2022.
TUTORING
The after-school library hours are available once again. Please note that this semester the library will close at 6 pm Monday - Thursday instead of 7 pm and Saturday tutoring will only be available by appointment. If you do not sign up for Saturday tutoring using the form that is emailed to you by Ms. Catlett every week there will not be a teacher available for that Saturday session.

Wednesday: NO TUTORING - HS Staff Meeting

This is time that you can use to study, gather for a group meeting, use our new makerspace, or get help with assignments.
If you sign up for it before the end of school, snacks will be provided. Saturday tutoring must be signed up for by Friday, the google form can be found in the email sent to you from Ms. Catlett.
Math tutoring will be each morning from 7:00-7:45, and each Monday- Wednesday after school until 4:15.
Ms. Hendrix will be tutoring after school on Thursdays until 5:15.
Students, as we work toward keeping everyone healthy and safe here at Mena High School, please do not come to school with Flu like or COVID-like symptoms.
-Positive COVID cases will have to ISOLATE for 10 days before returning to school
-IF you wear a mask correctly and have been identified as a Close Contact, you will not have to quarantine.
-If not wearing a mask, and you have been identified as a Close Contact, you will have to be quarantined for 7-10 days if you have NOT been vaccinated.

Holly Harshman Dental Sealant Clinic forms are going out on Thursday. If you would like your student participate in the clinic they need to fill out and return both the FERRPA and Registration Form to Nurse Lisa by January 28. Once we have a number participating they will schedule our date.


The dental sealants program for Mena Middle Schools 6th graders is scheduled for February 24, 2022 at 9am. Forms will be sent home with sixth grade students beginning Thursday of this week. The forms must be completely filled out and signed. The deadline for forms to be returned is January 27, 2022. The students who participate will be transported by bus to Healthy Connections, LLC and returned to the middle school when finished.
