Security Awareness Alert - December December is upon us and the holidays are here! This time is well known for good food, spending time with loved ones, and snazzy gifts. Did you know that cybercriminals love Christmas too? Seriously, it really is their favorite season. During the holidays we're all shopping on new sites, receiving all kinds of promotional emails, and seeing advertisements pop-up everywhere we look online. For cybercriminals, this creates the perfect environment to take advantage of regular folks like us. I don't know about you, but a cyberattack is a present that is best left unwrapped! Take 3 minutes this holiday season to protect yourself and your crew. You'll be smarter and safer in minutes! https://adesandbox.arkansas.gov/iframe...

Mena bus drivers have reported an increase in the number of vehicles who are passing busses while red lights are flashing. Starting this school year, Arkansas law now requires drivers to stop at least 30 feet behind a stopped school bus. This law applies to drivers in all directions. It applies to roads, streets or highways open to the general public. A driver who breaks the law can be found guilty of a misdemeanor. The proscribed punishments are a fine of $250 to $1,000 and/or up to 90 days in jail. Follow this link to read Act 264 https://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/Acts/FTPDocument...

New Mena School Board Zones have been drawn and the board approved those new zones at their meeting on Tuesday.. According to the latest census Mena’s population now exceeds the 10% minority threshold. This means that board zones will be required in the future. In December, the two at large members from the two zones with two current board members will be determined.

National School Bus Safety Week was the result of a letter-writing campaign to President Nixon in 1969. Founded by Dick Fischer, a former school district transportation director in California, the first NSBSW was held in 1970. In 1975, the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) was founded. The NAPT, along with the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) and National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPT), hosts National Bus Safety Week each year.

During the 2nd full week in October, National School Lunch Week shines the spotlight on the programs and nutritious food served up every day throughout the school year. Many cafeteria staff often know a child’s eating habits as well as a parent does. They often know each child by name. At the Mena Public Schools we appreciate our friends at Aramark for feeding our students a delicious & nutritious meal every school day !
