Wednesday was Grandparent Day at Louise Durham Elementary. Several were on campus reading to students including this group in Courtney Warren's class.
Pre-K grandparents took advantage of a great opportunity on Wednesday. Those who responded to the invitation came to Louise Durham Elementary to read to their grandkids and other students. Thank you to everyone who made Grandparents Day at LDE so much fun.

Community leaders, including Polk Co. Sheriff Scoot Sawyer, Polk County Judge Brandon Ellison and Mena Mayor Seth Smith, spoke to employees of the Mena Public Schools on Thursday. The visit was well timed with our renewed emphasis on community as well as safety and security.

Mr. Steve Roberts with the Arkansas Activities Association spoke to all employees on Thursday about "Making Expectations a Reality." Roberts kept the audience engaged with lessons on perseverance, attitude and motivation.
Steve Roberts served as the head football coach at Southern Arkansas University, at Northwestern State University and at Arkansas State University.. After leaving Arkansas State, he became the athletic director for the Cabot, Arkansas School District and then became Associate Executive Director for Football at the Arkansas Activities Association.

Mena Cheer and Little Cats Cheer had a great time at the scrimmage game on Tuesday!
Mena staff participated in a Poverty Simulation presented by the DeQueen Mena Education Service Cooperative on Tuesday in the MHS cafeteria. During the simulation participants role-play a month in poverty and experience low income families’ lives. Just like real life, they need transportation to work or school and food on the table. They might struggle with a chronic illness and face daily stresses and challenges a person in poverty faces.

All employees of the Mena Public Schools began a week of training on Monday at Mena High School. The training is directly related to our district focus areas of trauma-informed education and the impact poverty has on learning; professional ethics and responsibilities; school safety and security; and our new Mission and Vision.
