Mena High School teacher Krystal Boyd currently teaches one class, Computer Science 1, which includes 22 students. All 22 plan to take Computer Science 2 in the spring.
On Wednesday, November 7, Governor Asa Hutchinson announced the release of the Arkansas High School Computer Science Enrollment Numbers. During his press conference, the Governor announced that for the 2018/19 school year, 8,044 individual students in Arkansas are enrolled in at least one, but in many instances more than one CS course. This represents an increase of 1,860 students (30%) over 2017/18 and 6,940 students (629%) over 2014/15.
The Governor and the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) would like to hear more stories about the excellent computer science work that students and teachers are doing around the state.
