Monday, March 1 st
I. Mrs. Lunsford is out today, so the students needing yearbook photos will have that done
tomorrow or later in the week. However, at the end of these announcements, there is a list
of FBLA students that need to go to Mrs. Sikes’ room for pictures.
II. 6 th grade Quiz Bowl will meet in the Conference Room right after these announcements.
III. There is still a phone and charger in the front office that was found outside last week.
Come to the office to claim it. Today is the last day we will announce this.

Friday, February 26 th
I. Those of you that were to have yearbook photos taken today will have it done Monday,
instead.
II. Any 6 th grader interested in playing 7 th grade football next year will meet with Coach Bentley
in the Cafeteria today, right after these announcements.
III. From Mrs. Sikes: Our Mena Middle School FBLA members represented our school very

Trinaty Richmond, Kate Wilson, Makenzie Vega, and Dax McMellon have the opportunity to
compete at the state level in the Business Math & Financial Literacy competition and the
Digital Citizenship competition. Other winners were Eli Swall, Max Rocha, Isabel Vacca,
Christian Staggs, and Stella Smith. Congratulations to our FBLA Team!
IV. From Mrs. Rose: To conclude the Through with Chew Week: Did you know that many
companies will not hire tobacco users. Be employable! Be through with chew and all
tobacco!
V. Today is the 120 th day of school with only 58 school days remaining. Just a reminder that
we have only two weeks until this grading quarter ends and only three weeks until Spring
Break.

This week is National Through with Chew Week. MMS Project Prevent team set up an information/prevention booth today at lunch. Team member Kinley read off chew tobacco facts encouraging her peers to choose to be tobacco free. Students were given the opportunity to sign a banner as a pledge to "Pick"le to be Through with Chew. Students who made the pledge were given a pickle. Close to 300 pledges to stay tobacco free were made. Special Thanks to team member Kili for making the cool banner.


A crew from UAMS is administering round two of the covid vaccine to MPS employees today. Quarantine numbers continue to fall in the district mirroring the national trend.

Monday, February 22nd
I. Welcome back. We hope everyone enjoyed their unscheduled winter break. Be sure and
check with all of your teachers about any issues you had last week completing work.
Assignments must be completed to keep us from having to add the snow days to the end of
the school year.
II. There are only three weeks of school remaining until the end of the 3 rd grading quarter and
only four weeks remaining until Spring Break.
III. 6 th grade Quiz Bowl will meet in the Conference Room right after these announcements.
IV. From Mrs. Breedlove: To any current 6 th grader that is interested in signing up to be on
next year’s 7 th grade Cheer squad, there will be a sign-up form located outside of her
classroom starting tomorrow. See Mrs. Breedlove for more information or if you have any
questions.

I. 7 th & 8 th grade Quiz Bowl will meet in the Conference Room right after these

II. Any 7 th or 8 th grade boy that is interested in participating in track, will meet with Coach
Luttmer in the gym tomorrow during ACHIEVE.
III. From Mrs. Breedlove: Valentine's Day is coming up. Cheerleaders will be selling 'Crushes
for your crush, or your friends.' Crushes can be purchased at lunch for $1 and will be
passed out during 7th period on Friday.
IV. Students, due to our Wifi issues, make sure that the Wifi is turned OFF on you phones.
V. From Mrs. Rose: Prize winners from the Kindness Challenge Drawing are Rayleigh
Goodnight, Riya Desai, Zeke Kupper, William Higgens, Emmi Ownes, and John Gomez.
Stop by Mrs. Rose's office to claim your prize.
VI. Next Monday, February 15 th , will be a virtual learning day for students. You will not be
attending school that day.
VII. There is a small possibility of some wintery weather at the end of this week or early next
week. If there is wintery weather early in the morning before school, listen to the local radio
stations KENA 104.1 or KQOR 105.3 or look at the district’s Facebook pages for
information regarding school closing.
VIII. Lunchtime Weather: The forecast shows some frigid cold daytime temperatures arriving in
a couple of days. Dress appropriately.

There will be no classes at Mena Public Schools on Monday, February 15th.. This will be a virtual day for students.
Holly Harshman Elementary is scheduling Parent/Teacher Conferences for 2/15 from 8:30am-8:30pm. See an earlier post for details.
Mena High School will also be conducting CAP conferences for 8th-11th grade students on 2/15. CAP stands for Career Action Planning. The purpose is to assist students and parents in planning their schedule for 21/22.

today in the MMS Gym right after these announcements.
II. 6 th grade Quiz Bowl will meet in the Cafeteria right after these announcements.
III. If you think you might receive a Valentine delivery this Friday, make your parents aware
that state law does not allow inflated balloons on a school bus. If you have a balloon and
you ride a bus, it will be deflated before you get on your bus.
IV. There has been an increase is a couple of problem areas lately:
1) Cell phones – you are allowed to use your phones outside at breakfast, lunch, and after
school…nowhere else.
2) Bus behavior – Follow the bus rules and safety guidelines or you may be facing ISS or a
temporary bus suspension.
V. Lunchtime Weather: The forecast shows some frigid cold daytime temperatures arriving in
a couple of days. Dress appropriately.
