Mena High School Juniors gathered in the PAC this afternoon for some presentations about scheduling for their senior years, taking JAG, and when their senior pictures will take place.
The Ladycats gave up 4 runs in the 1st & thats all The Lady Rattlers would need to defeat Mena 8-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Union Bank Park... The Ladys are back in action Friday when they host Hackett at 4:30pm.
The Middle School Choir spring concert date is Tuesday, April 23. The concert theme is Rockin' the Groove: Music from the 60's and 70's. The audience will be entertained with great hits by the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Queen, and many other artists from the time period.
The Spotlight Singers will travel to UCA in Conway on Friday, April 12, to compete in state choral performance assessment. The ensemble members are focused and determined to give their best performance Friday!!!

FFA members who are interested in receiving their Greenhand degree, Star greenhand award (9th grade only), Chapter, Degree, or Star chapter award (Seniors only) at the FFA banquet need to pick up applications for Mr. Collins this week. Deadline for turning in FFA greenhand and chapter degree applications will be April 18 Thursday.
The FFA has a sign-up sheet in the Ag building for the members who are planning to show livestock this year.
Senior FFA members, the Chris Jones Memorial Scholarship applications are available. You can pick up applications from Mr. Collins or Mr. Maye this week. Applications are due April 22.

From Mr. Goodnight: Any current 7th or 8th grade student that is interested in showing livestock for FFA can go by his room in the next couple of days to sign up.

From Mrs. Rose: BADD members please plan to wear your shirts on Friday. You will be participating with Mayor Smith's signing of the Alcohol Awareness Month Proclamation. You will also meet during Achieve for a campus clean up.
We have had several recent issues with students listening to loud music – sometimes inappropriate music – on the bus. If you want to listen to music on the bus, you must wear earbuds. If you are written up for this, it could be a double violation (bus violation / phone violation).
Several students have been roaming the hallways before school. Once you arrive at school you are only allowed to go to the cafeteria or outside. You can go to the library to read or study, with permission from Mrs. Brooks.
Some of you have noticed that we are in that time of the year where wasps and bees are starting to become active. Be on the lookout for them and leave them alone.

Ladycat soccer will play today at Centerpoint. There will not be a boys game.
The Freshmen and Sophomores will have a meeting Friday during Enrichment in the PAC.
If you were supposed to be on the AYAA trip today and did not get scheduled for E2 or Flex, please come to Mrs. Torix's room during Enrichment so you can be scheduled for the right location.

Thursday, April 18, there is a Job Fair at UARM during 3rd and enrichment. We will take Juniors and Seniors who want to go. They need to sign up in counseling center if they want to attend Job Fair.
Prom will be 8-11 at Ouachita Center. Group photo at 7:45. After prom will be at Silver Screen Theater. The movie will be from 11:30-1:00 then prizes and breakfast will be at Mena High school from 1-2 am. Prom dues are due Friday to Ms. Hendrix.
There will be a Junior Prom Planning Committee meeting tomorrow during Enrichment in Ms. Hobson's room.
Anyone interested in applying to be on next year's Yearbook Staff, the applications are now available in Mr. Philpot's room 205. Return applications by next Wednesday the 17th.

FBLA officer applications for the 2019-2020 school year are now available in Mrs. Lindsey's and Mrs. Torix's rooms for any FBLA member who would like to be an officer next year. They are due April 26.
Students since it is turkey season make sure you do not bring any rifles to school in your vehicle. If a gun is found in your vehicle, it is required by law to look and it is a 365 day expulsion.
Art Club officer applications are now available for any interested art club member. Deadline to submit applications will be April 16th at noon.
All cap and gowns that have been ordered and not paid for are in the office. Herf Jones is accepting cash only or you can pay on-line.
Mr. Breedlove will be taking orders for Senior Bricks. The cost is $20 per brick or $10 to share a brick with another person. Bricks must be paid for in advance.
Students you must scan your ID cards at lunch. Do not get extras unless you have money in your account.

Mena High School juniors hopped on the bus for a short trip to the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain for their annual Junior Day. UARM President & Mena School Board member Phillip Wilson welcomed them to campus... Juniors are learning all about the local college & what they have to offer.

Mena Schools would like to congratulate middle school students who placed at the recent Young Artist Show at the Mena Art Gallery... 7th grader BROOKLYN HILDERBRAND won 3rd place in the mixed media category... 8th grader HARMONY PETERSON won 3rd place in the three dimensional category... The Mena softball team picked up a conference win at Malvern Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 8-4... The Ladycats will play Murfreesboro on Wednesday at Union Bank Park... The game will start at 4:30pm...
The Mena baseball team played at Malvern this afternoon & lost by a score of 6-5 The Bearcats will play next on 4/16 when they host Bauxite.. First pitch will be at 4:30pm in Union Bank Park.
The Arkansas Choral Directors Association recognizes academic achievement as well as musical excellence. We have 16 Bearcat Chorus students who received distinguished honors (3.25-4.0 GPA) and 3 who received excellent honors (3.0-3.24 GPA). Twelve of the Spotlight Singers received distinguished honors. Both choirs received Distinguished group academic honors. The Bearcat Chorus has a composite GPA of 3.3 and the Spotlight Singers have a composite GPA of 3.77.
