Polk County Virtual Academy is excited to announce our partnership with Edmentum and Calvert Learning for our K-8 curriculum in the 2019-2020 school year. Calvert Learning has been working with home-school curriculum for over 100 years. 9th through 12th grade will continue to use EdOptions. Both programs offer Arkansas certified teachers and are aligned with Arkansas State Standards. Mena Public School Bus Drivers are undergoing their annual training today in the MHS Performing Arts Center. These professionals are a great asset & are very much appreciated. The new school year begins on August 14th.

If you live outside the Mena School District & your child wants to be a Bearcat, or if you missed the school choice deadline, there are some important dates coming up that you need to know about. Applications for student transfers will be accepted Monday, July 29th thru Monday, August 12th. This also applies to out of district students who would like to enroll in the Polk County Virtual Academy.

The Mena School District sent a team of administrators to the 2019 High Reliability Schools Summit in Denver. This dynamic professional learning experience was attended by Paulette Sherrer, Jimma Holder, Tamara Smart, and Cliff Sherrer along with over 1,100 other educators. The district team was thankful for this experience to spend three days listening to and learning from Robert Marzano, Anthony Muhammad, Philip Warrick and other breakout speakers. The Mena administrative team is excited for the opportunity to impact, improve upon, and inspire an increased positive school culture for learning. The district and building leadership are committed to facilitating and supporting the authentic Professional Learning Community (PLC) process this year.
