Tuesday, September 7th Mena Cross Country will compete in their first meet of the season at the Tom Stuthard Stampede in Acorn starting at 3:30pm. Jr. & Sr. Volleyball will host Malvern at the Union Bank Center beginning at 4:00pm.

MMS ANNOUNCEMENTS Thursday, September 2 nd I. Reminder: Monday is Labor Day and there will be no school. II. Several of you have been taking off your shoes while outside at lunch. Do not take off your shoes. There is always a chance of stepping on an old nail, broken glass, or a stinging insect. III. MMS Band Students: Beginning on Monday, you are not allowed to hang out in the Band Room in the mornings before school. You can still drop off your instrument but then you must leave the Band Room and either go to breakfast or go outside with the rest of the students. IV. From Mrs. Rose: The 6th grade Getting to Know You activity prize winners please stop by her office between classes to claim your prize. Winners are: Paeyton Hostetler, Landon Bush, Jimi Roberts, Gabruielle Autrey, Hailey Tosta, Samual Hopper, Gavin Crawford, Sergio Maldanand, Abbagail Cude and Beau Rodgers V. Tomorrow we will do a random drawing for a prize. The prize will be a free pass to all of the dances we hope to have this year. There will be one winner from each grade. The FFA Organization is now accepting new members to join! There will be a meeting on September 10th in the Ag Building during Enrichment, this will be the first meeting of the year and it is encouraged for new members or interested students to attend. Dues are $17 and are encouraged to be paid as soon as possible. WE would love to see you there, and get to know you

Beginning Band students took part in the Beginning Band Bootcamp on Saturday. The Beginners learned how to assemble/clean their instrument, produce sound, and play their first five notes. Each instrument section was taught by a high school band member. GO BAND !!!!

MMS ANNOUNCEMENTS Friday, August 27 th I. Right after these announcements, any 7 th or 8 th grader that is interested in FBLA will have a meeting in Mrs. Sikes’ classroom. II. Students, remember that if you are not feeling well or have a temperature, do not come to school. III. All of our campuses are starting to see a rise in students being sent home either as a result of a positive test or as a close contact. Just a reminder that State law now states that if you are identified as a close contact but you are either fully vaccinated or you were wearing a mask at the time, you will not have to quarantine. IV. Students, with our dance having to be held outside, I told you that there are several factors that would determine whether or not we would be able to have the dance, with weather being one of them. There is a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico and it is projected to become a hurricane and hit Louisiana on Monday and is forecasted to bring steady to heavy rainfall to several states, including all of Arkansas, by Tuesday. Unfortunately, we have made the decision to postpone the dance. We will try to reschedule it within the next couple of weeks. V. The Mena Bearcats will open their season tonight at Bearcat Stadium at 7:00. If you are attending the game or any football game this year, keep a few things in mind:  School rules still apply  Stay in the bleachers  Do not run around, playing pickup games, throwing balls. You will be sent to the bleachers.  When going to the concession stand or restrooms, go straight there and straight back to the bleachers. VII. Mena Jr. Volleyball & Jr. Football were both in action on Thursday. Jr. Ladycats-0 Greenwood-2 Jr. Bearcats-35 Mansfield-0 Volleyball will host L.R. Central on 9/2 & Jr. Football will play at DeQueen on 9/2.

Mena Jr. High Volleyball will play at Greenwood today beginning with the JV game at 4:30pm. Mena Jr. High Football plays at Mansfield this evening with kickoff at 7:00pm. The 7th grade game scheduled for tonight has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.

MMS ANNOUNCEMENTS Wednesday, August 25 th I. Any 7 th or 8 th grader that is interested in joining the Cross Country Team will meet with Coach Peters in our gym right after these announcements. II. Reminders:  There will be an FBLA meeting for 7 th & 8 th graders this Friday during ACHIEVE.  6 th grade physicals for Wellness class are due this Friday.  The daily snack is available in the Cafeteria between 6 th & 7th period.  6 th graders need to enter the building through the 6 th grade entrance each morning.  8 th grade Basketball boys will be practicing at the High School this week.  Back to School Dance is next Tuesday evening. III. If you would like to request a song for the dance, write the song title, along with your name, on a sheet of paper and turn it in to Mrs. Rose. The song must not contain inappropriate lyrics. IV. Students, you should have received an email from me that gave details about the upcoming dance. I have had a couple of you ask if students from other schools may attend. Read your email again…this dance is for Mena Middle School students only. No other students are allowed at this dance. V. From Mr. McCormick: Tomorrow during ACHIEVE there will be a meeting in his classroom for all 6 th ,7 th , and 8 th grade students who are showing an animal at the County Fair. VI. If you are interested in Mena Youth League Soccer, we have registration forms in the office. This league is sponsored by the Mena Soccer Association – it is not a Mena Schools activity. Do not return the forms to our school. VII. Water Bottles. If you were absent last week and did not receive a MMS water bottle, you may come by the office and get one. Students, keep up with your water bottle so that you can use our fountains. We are required by current law to have water bottle filling stations. It is important that you stay hydrated. VIII. Mena Volleyball hosted Lake Hamilton Monday at Jim Rackley Gymnasium & the Union Bank Center.. The 7th Grade Ladycats lost 9-25 & 0-25. The Jr. High Ladycats won 25-18 & 25-23 The Sr. Ladycats won 25-15, 25-12 & 25-18 Mena will play at Greenwood on Thursday.

Mena Volleyball will host Lake Hamilton at the Union Bank Center. The 7th Grade, Jr. JV, Sr. JV. Jr. High & Sr. High teams will play beginning at 4:30pm. MHS Golf will play at Hot Springs Village in a match hosted by Jessieville..

The Jr. Ladycats were firing on all cylinders in the season opener on Monday afternoon. Mena defeated Waldron 25-20 & 25-17 at the Union Bank Center. The girls are back in action on Tuesday when they host Lake Hamilton. Games start at 4:30pm in the UBC. GO LADYCATS!!!
