MMS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Monday, August 23rd
I. If you still owe signed paper work, get those turned in asap.
II. Attention 7 th grade Football Team – you will need to eat during Lunch “A” today so that you can be ready for your scheduled time for today’s team photo.
III. From Mrs. Sikes: Any 7th or 8th grade student interested in joining FBLA need to go to Mrs Sikes room for a short meeting after announcements on Friday, Aug 27 th .
IV. 6 th graders in Wellness class have until this Friday to have your medical physical completed and turned in.
V. Starting today, there will be a small snack available to you in the Cafeteria between 6 th & 7 th periods. You are not required to get one but it will be available every day. Swing by, grab a snack, and head to 7 th period.
VI. Reminder: When the first bell rings to start school, 6 th graders will enter the building at the 6 th grade doors near the car rider line. 7 th & 8 th graders will enter through the Cafeteria.
VII. It looks like that the date for our MMS Back to School Dance will be one week from tomorrow, Tuesday, August 31. Much more info will be given later but for now you need to know that it is for MMS students only and the cost to enter will be $5.00

Mena Volleyball will play their season opener against Waldron at the Union Bank Center beginning at 4:00pm this afternoon. The Jr. High Varsity, Senior JV & Senior High Varsity will be in action.
Mena Golf will be playing at the Nashville Country Club beginning at 3:30pm.

Drew Threlkeld helped distribute Bearcat water bottles to Mena Middle School Students on Wednesday. All water fountains are equipped with water bottle filling stations. Go Drew !!!!!


Mena Football will play a scrimmage game tonight at Mansfield. The Jr. High scrimmage starts at 6:00pm with the Sr. High scrimmage to follow.
Mena Golf will play at the Waldron Country Club beginning at 3:30pm.

MMS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Tuesday, August 17 th
I. Students, remember to bring all of your paperwork back to your ACHIEVE teacher ASAP. Make sure everything has been signed. Some forms require a signature from both you and your parent. You cannot have internet access until you have returned your signed computer use agreement form.
II. If you still have a Chromebook from last year, get it turned in ASAP.
III. The Nurse’s office is not where it was last year. It is now at the end of Hall “A”, near Ms Williamson’s and Mrs. Swall’s rooms.
IV. Reminder: Bring a water bottle or plastic container with a lid to use at the fountains. It is important to drink water throughout the day…stay hydrated.
V. Schedule Changes – Any 7 th grader that needs to visit with Mrs. Rose about an issue with your schedule, may put your name on the list located outside of her office.
VI. There will be a Beginning Band Instrument Meeting this Thursday, August 19th from 3:30-5:30 pm in the Middle School Band Room.
VII. During lunch, nobody is allowed to hang out near the safe room. Do not go past the sidewalk next to the safe room. That is considered a part of the high school campus.
VIII. Also during lunch, place your backpacks along a wall either near the storage cubbies or along the wall outside of the library in the cafeteria or in the main hallway by the main entrance to the library. Do not block any doors with your backpacks and do not keep them at your table. This is a violation of fire safety code.

Mena Bearcat fans should know that mask guidelines will vary from school to school & sport to sport this year. Each school has adopted their own rules for attendance & you should be prepared when attending road games. We will do our best to keep you posted on any mask policy we are made aware of. There will be a Mena Beginning Band Instrument Meeting on Thursday, August 19th from 3:30-5:30pm. Meet in the middle band room. Anyone who is interested in the rent to own program please bring your check book. Books are $9 for most instruments. --


It was a a foggy start to the first day of school in Mena but all seemed excited to start the 2021/2022 school year !!!!

Teachers from across the Mena School District are meeting in the Mena High School Performing Arts Center today. They are there to hear Michelle Finn speak on "The New Art and Science of Teaching." Finn is the coauthor of "A Handbook for Personalized, Competency-Based Education" & recently received notoriety as a cast member on the tv show "Alone" on the History Channel.

Rodney Dominguez & Logan Myers work on the finishing touches in preparation for the first day of school on Monday, August 16th. A scene that's been repeated at all campuses today.


Coach Randy peters has released the 2021 schedule for Mena Cross Country. The first meet is Tuesday, September 7th. GO BEARCATS!!!


The Mena Jr. Ladycats were split up into a “Red Team” and “Black Team” over the last two weeks for different of competitions. Today we challenged the girls to bring canned goods for a local food pantry. Red team won, bringing 120 food items, while the black team had 79! All together we are able to donate 199 food items to families in need in our community. We are very proud of these girls and their willingness to help people. Go Ladycats !


Mena High School coaches & players had a great time with the youth league players on Monday at a Pop Up Camp. We reviewed basic fundamentals on offense and tackle technique/form. Our Seniors did a GREAT job helping out with the coaches! Thanks to MYFA and their great coaches for letting us come out!


Middle School Pricipal Todd Coogan spoke to our 7th and 8th graders today about Bearcat Pride and Expectations for athletes during the school year!


Our students return to school on Monday, August 16th. Please help us keep them safe. Be aware that busses will be picking up students in the morning & dropping them off in the afternoon each school day. Blinking yellow means that the bus is approaching a stop. Blinking red means that the bus is stopped & students are currently entering or exiting the bus. Let's all do our part to make it a safe year!!!


PCVA chromebook pickup is available Tuesday from 9am-noon or Wednesday 1pm-5pm at Mena Middle School. All other pickups can be scheduled by emailing or calling Teresa Warner at the Middle School.
